Life at Mission Australia
When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we stand together with anyone who needs us, for as long as they need us. Find out more about us and our purpose.

Your Opportunity
Join a purpose-driven program that empowers young people to take the next step toward independence. As a Youth Tenancy Officer in Darwin, you will be part of a team at our Housing for Young People program that supports young people aged 18-25 as they transition from Out of Home Care into safe and stable housing. Through tenancy education, personalised case management, and strong community partnerships, you will help our clients build the skills and confidence they need to thrive. This is an on-site position where your day-to-day impact will directly contribute to meaningful, long-term outcomes for young people as they pursue education, employment, and a place to call home.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver person-centred, culturally secure and aware, solution focused case management supporting young people to live independently and sustain tenancies.
  • Educate tenants on their rights and responsibilities, conduct regular property inspections, and complete all tenancy-related documentation to a high standard.
  • Identify and secure appropriate housing, arrange leases and tenancy transitions, and liaise with real estate agents to support clients through property inspections.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships, including with Anglicare and other service providers, participating in meetings, case conferences, and referral networks.
  • Ensure rent payments are managed, arrears followed up, and maintenance or repair issues are actioned promptly.
  • Provide tenancy and financial literacy education, assisting clients with budgeting, goal setting, and developing skills for sustainable independence.
  • Maintain accurate records including case notes, assessment documents, tenancy applications, and reports, ensuring all information is entered into the client management system (e.g., Chintaro).

Requirements for Success

  • Demonstrated experience working with young people in a community services setting, with a sound understanding of trauma-informed practice and youth development.
  • Previous experience in housing or property management, ideally with knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act 1999 and a strong interest in social impact.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a minimum Cert IV in Community Services with 3-5 years' experience, or a degree in a related field with at least 1 year of relevant practice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with young people, service providers, and community networks.
  • Sound administrative and IT skills, including experience with case management systems like Chintaro, and the ability to maintain accurate and timely client records.
  • Knowledge of local services in the NT, including culturally appropriate practice and engagement with Aboriginal clients and communities.
  • Attend client properties independently (subject to risk assessments) as part of outreach and tenancy support work.
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

Your Benefits
To ensure our employees feel valued, empowered, and celebrated, we provide a range of employee benefits including:

  • Rewarding work - every day you know you're making a real difference
  • Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via AccessPay)
  • Free external, confidential counselling and access to chaplaincy support.
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Extra leave available including an additional public holiday, additional annual leave day on your work anniversary and the opportunity to purchase further annual leave.
