About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Governance Advisor, this role provides specialist support to ensure the effective delivery of Council’s corporate governance and legal support services. The successful applicant will play an important role in coordinating Council meetings, maintaining statutory registers, administering governance frameworks, and supporting legal and property transactions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Receive, consider, and determine formal and informal applications for Council information made under the Government Information Public Access (GIPA) Act.
  • Contribute to the development, delivery and maintenance of Council’s Governance and IP&R Frameworks to ensure the community has trust and confidence in the decisions and conduct of the organisation.
  • Administer Council’s conflict of interest, designated persons, and gifts and benefits registers.
  • Facilitate the coordination of the Council Meeting process by undertaking the preparation of meeting notices, documents and reports, recording and compiling minutes and action sheets, distributing meeting papers, running PowerPoint presentations and uploading documentation and minutes to Council’s website.

About You

As our Governance Advisor, you will have:

  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, complex reports, correspondence, minutes, and registers with a high level of attention to detail.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive or regulated matters.
  • The ability to interpret and apply legislation such as the Local Government Act 1993 and Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (NSW).
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating or supporting formal meetings, ideally in a local government or board setting.
  • A proactive approach to engaging stakeholders to deliver initiatives across an organisation.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to build relationships and influence positive outcomes across a diverse workforce.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn corporate systems.
