  • Permanent, full-time position (35 hours per week).
  • Remuneration package of $3,343.26 gross per fortnight with the opportunity to progress to $4,011.91 gross per fortnight + superannuation (12%).

As the Environmental Officer, you will be responsible for delivering professional projects and services across the areas of sustainability, biodiversity, natural resource management and climate mitigation and adaptation.

As the Environmental Officer, some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide specialist technical expertise in relation to environmental management for input into strategic planning proposals, environmental planning instruments and Council policies.
  • Implement relevant actions from adopted environmental strategies and plans including the: Corporate Net Zero Strategy, Community Net Zero Roadmap, Urban Cooling Strategy, and Biodiversity Strategy: Maldhangilanha.
  • Work with team members across directorates and provide input on relevant plans, programs and grant projects.
  • Implement environmental projects and initiatives in accordance with environmental legislation and Council policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement plans, policies and procedures related to environment and sustainability for implementation across the organisation and the community where relevant.
  • Carry out limited field assessment and monitoring where required to inform processes for the management of natural systems and environmental protection.
  • Prepare correspondence, general and technical reports and presentations on a variety of topics.
  • Undertake review and prepare submissions on upcoming government policies and legislative changes on behalf of Council.
  • Build strong relationships within Council staff, the community and key agencies to help provide expert environmental management advice and represent Council in appropriate forums.
  • Undertake other duties as required by Council commensurate with qualifications, training and skills.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role e.g. Environmental Science or related discipline;
  • Substantial experience relevant to the role with an emphasis on interpreting and implementing legislation regarding environment and planning;
  • Experience in environmental impact assessments and environmental projects; and
  • Class C Driver's Licence.
