We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced carpenter to take on a Leading Hand role within our commercial fit-out team. Working as a contractor (ABN required), you will oversee and work alongside a small team delivering high-quality commercial interiors in Melbourne’s CBD and surrounding areas.

This is a great opportunity to work with some of Melbourne’s leading fit-out builders on premium office, retail, and hospitality projects.

🧰 Job Overview

As a Commercial Carpenter / Leading Hand, you'll be responsible for delivering high-end interior fit-out and commercial refurbishment works, including:

Plasterboard partitions and metal stud framing

Aluminium glazed partitions and commercial aluminium suites

Doors, jambs, and hardware (MDF and aluminium)

Suspended ceilings and feature bulkheads

General fix carpentry and detailed finishing work

You’ll also be required to supervise small teams of carpenters, coordinate trades on site, and work closely with site managers and project stakeholders.

✅ Qualifications & Experience

We’re looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and leadership capability:

Minimum 5 years’ proven experience in commercial carpentry, particularly office fit-outs and refurbishments

Valid White Card / Construction Induction Card

Own reliable tools and the ability to transport them to and from site

Current driver’s licence and access to a suitable vehicle

Full, unrestricted working rights in Australia

High level of competence in both structural and finishing carpentry

Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and construction documents

Sound knowledge of building techniques, codes, and safety standards

Physically fit with the ability to perform manual tasks and work at heights

Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly when resolving on-site construction challenges

Confident communicator and team player with leadership qualities

🔨 Tasks & Responsibilities

Installation of aluminium glazed partition systems and MDF/aluminium doors

Framing and installation of metal stud partition walls

Set-out and installation of suspended ceiling systems

All aspects of commercial carpentry and detailed finishing work

Supervising small teams and coordinating daily tasks

Manage defects and quality control

Supervise a small team of carpenters and plasterers

Maintaining a clean, safe, and productive site environment

Liaising with site supervisors and other trades to ensure project timelines are met
