Your opportunity
The role of Advanced Health Worker (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) will function within the interprofessional team to enhance the delivery of respectful and culturally appropriate care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as their carer's and families. Care extends to the family's local community, kinship system and to primary care teams. Additionally, the role functions at a service level to lead service improvement, cross-cultural education, sharing of knowledge and mentorship to strengthen delivery of culturally responsive, holistic and well-coordinated care to meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people, their families and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their family, cultural sensitivities are central to all aspects of care which involves creating cultural safety to support families in identifying and voicing their cultural beliefs and practices. It extends to providing expert advice to the multidisciplinary team to ensure cultural beliefs and practices are acknowledged and accommodated during their health journey.
The very nature of what we do and who we are is the real opportunity. Providing health care support in the bush is full of challenges, however, it remains the most rewarding of human experiences.
