ROLE DESCRIPTION
As a assistant manager at Taste My Bean, you are both a working barista and a leader. You’ll support the Store Manager by ensuring the team delivers consistent, high-quality service, and that operations run smoothly through the afternoon and into close.
This is a hands-on role that requires excellent multitasking, strong customer service, and the ability to lead by example. You’ll jump into every area of the café — preparing drinks, serving customers, handling food, supporting team members, and maintaining high standards from open to close.
You’ll also be involved in mentoring junior team members, providing feedback, helping manage rosters, stock levels, and reporting tasks when the Manager is away or unavailable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a TMB Team Member, you’ll be responsible for maintaining the pace, presentation, and overall atmosphere of the café during each shift. Your day-to-day duties will include:
Maintaining cleanliness and order across all areas of the café
Cleaning public spaces, restocking supplies, washing dishes, and rotating tasks as needed
Refilling and organising inventory, including restocking fridges, shelves, and prep areas
Taking and accurately recording customer orders (including special requests or changes)
Using the drive-through headset system to provide clear, prompt, and courteous service
Operating the Point-of-Sale (POS) system with confidence, managing transactions, and providing accurate change
Preparing cold drinks and assembling food items to TMB quality and presentation standards
Heating, slicing, topping, and plating food menu items as per guidelines
Maintaining a smooth workflow with your team through effective communication and task sharing
Following correct food safety, hygiene, and cleaning procedures throughout the shift
Preparing hot beverages to TMB standards using a manual espresso machine
Dialling in and monitoring coffee quality throughout the shift
Performing basic maintenance on the coffee machine, including regular cleaning of group handles, steam wands, trays, and filters
Working with the team to manage coffee flow during high-volume periods
In addition to the general duties listed above, Cafe Managers are responsible for:
Lead and support the team during PM shifts to maintain flow and service standards
Assist with daily task delegation and shift supervision
Provide coaching, training, and support to newer staff
Handle and resolve customer feedback professionally and promptly
Accurately report issues, low stock, and shift-related concerns to the Store Manager
Support rostering needs and shift cover when needed
MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS
Extensive barista experience on manual machines (minimum 1–2 years)
Previous leadership experience in a café or fast-paced hospitality environment
High-level customer service skills and confident communication
Able to multitask under pressure while maintaining quality standards
Availability to work closing shifts and weekends
Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 20kg
Reliable car and valid Australian driver licence
Strong English and basic computer literacy
COMPENSATION
This position is classified under Level 3 of the Food and Beverage stream within the Restaurant Industry Award 2020.
Estimated salary range: $51,000–$61,000 annually
