About the role
The purpose of this role is to support the development and maintenance of a safe work environment by applying WHS skills and knowledge of the WHS evidence base to develop, implement and evaluate WHS approaches and programs.
This role will strategically partner with business leaders and stakeholders, supporting them with specialist advice and knowledge, manage strategic WHS projects and initiatives and ensure effective design and execution of the Safety Management System.
On a daily basis you will:
- Develop and implement WHS plans and programs that align with the Safety Management System and broader organisational strategy.
- Partner with business leaders to identify WHS priorities and deliver tailored solutions that address operational risks.
- Lead the implementation of StateCover self-audit action plans and organisation-wide WHS risk register reviews.
- Design and manage WHS critical controls assurance programs to strengthen risk mitigation.
- Conduct complex risk assessments and coach stakeholders in quality risk management practices.
- Lead investigations into workplace incidents, ensuring robust root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Coordinate hazard identification, inspections, job hazard analyses, and safety observations.
- Support the development of Safe Systems of Work including SWMS, SOPs, and work instructions.
- Facilitate WHS consultative mechanisms and liaise with external authorities on WHS matters.
- Deliver WHS training and inductions, and support the identification and fulfilment of training needs.
- Mentor WHS committee members, supervisors, and managers to build capability and accountability.
- Drive safety culture initiatives and partner with leaders to improve safety performance.
- Ensure timely reporting of hazards and incidents in line with organisational and legislative requirements.
- Maintain WHS records and manage WHS information systems to support data-driven decision-making.
- Analyse and report on injury and illness statistics to inform continuous improvement.
- Promote ethical conduct, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of WHS practice.
About You
The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in WHS principles, strategic thinking, and stakeholder engagement. You will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in the design and implementation of Safety Management System processes and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical solutions to complex WHS challenges.
- Contemporary knowledge of WHS legislation, industry trends, and best practice approaches.
- Ability to interpret and apply WHS legislation to meet operational and strategic business needs.
- Experience in managing WHS projects and delivering training programs across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Advanced incident investigation skills, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
- Demonstrated capability in conducting risk assessments for complex tasks and environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Commitment to ethical practice, customer service excellence, and continuous improvement.
You will also bring the following qualifications and skills to the role:
Qualifications (Level)
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS
- Class C Driver Licence
- First Aid Certificate (including annual CPR refresher)
- Completed training in WHS Auditing and WHS Incident & Investigation Management
Skills
- Ability to develop and maintain effective workplace relationships
- Strong stakeholder influencing and management skills
- Ability to work in a team to achieve agreed outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to successfully implement change management programs from a WHS perspective

We are offering an attractive remuneration from $138,124.81 to $152,133.01 plus 12% superannuation.
