Join us as a permanent Protection Engineering Manager and amplify your impact. This is a permanent opportunity, and will be based at our Townsville office.
Your Opportunity
As our Protection Engineering Manager, your skills and knowledge of electrical protection delivery and risk management will be key to Energy Queensland’s continued success and growth.
You are a competent people leader who also provides technical RPEQ protection advice to the business. You lead a specialised skillset in the organisation, and your days will see you focus on people leadership, efficient delivery, providing technical expertise, and assessing risk management.
Once in the role, you will spend your time between acting as a subject matter expert overseeing the delivery of projects, and also coaching and mentoring your team. Further duties include:
- Leadership:
- Foster a culture of excellence by delivering high performance, positively leading change, encouraging open communication, and promoting cross-collaboration and innovation.
- Provide RPEQ supervision to technical employees based locally and remotely.
- Technical:
- Provide technical leadership and direction, ensuring delivery of engineering activities by making significant engineering decisions.
- Apply and provide feedback on the application of standards and processes used in the application of protection systems
- Focus on delivery, reliability, security, cost, safety, and environmental issues, utilising risk-based techniques to ensure optimal outcomes.
With either a 9 or 10 day fortnight in place, the bottom of the salary band starts from $206,634 for 9 days and $233,498 for 10 days + 14.75% superannuation.

What You’ll Bring
You will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering that meets the qualification requirements of the Washington Accord, and be a RPEQ.
Not only are you a technical expert in the area of power system protection, you are also a strong leader who can develop capability and offer coaching opportunities to your team of engineers and technical professionals.
When it comes to your knowledge, skills, and ability, you can demonstrate:
- Technical knowledge which equips you to be an engineering SME related to protection systems in a power network. You are well-versed in making engineering calculations and analysis including the application of risk management techniques, with a strong technical background in protection system design and/or operations.
- The ability to engage, develop, and lead a high-performance team, who deliver high quality sustainable technical solutions.
- A strategic mindset where you consider how to innovate and improve processes and evolve tactics to then positively influence the business.
Thinking of your transferrable or soft skills, you will bring with you :
- A high level of well-developed communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with a range of key internal and external stakeholders. You can build rapport, collaborate with peers and stakeholders, and maintain professional relationships at all levels.
