Commencement Date: Immediate Start Preferred

Walk with Yolŋu Women to Create Safe, Strong Families

Galiwin’ku Women’s Space (GWS) is seeking a passionate and skilled DFSV Educator to join our Yolŋu-led team on Elcho Island. This is a unique opportunity to live and work on a remote tropical island in Arnhem Land - walking alongside Yolŋu staff, Elders, and community to deliver education that helps stop violence and grow strong, safe families.

You’ll design and deliver culturally respectful training in family violence prevention, healthy relationships, and LGBTQIA+ inclusion, grounded in Yolŋu ways of knowing, Gurruṯu (kinship systems), and community healing.

The location is Galiwin’ku, Elcho Island (NT) - FIFO negotiable from Nhulunbuy or Darwin with most time spent in community.

What You’ll Be Doing

Running monthly workshops with GWS staff on domestic and family violence prevention and LGBTQIA+ safety

Facilitating inclusive DFSV community education sessions through storytelling, art, song, and yarning

Building LGBTQIA+ inclusion aligned with Rainbow Tick standards

Creating engaging, culturally appropriate resources in Yolŋu Matha and English

Working with Elders and LGBTQIA+ community members to co-design education that is safe, inclusive, and empowering

Supporting the development of a culturally safe, trauma-informed learning environment for all staff and community members

Who We’re Looking For

You might be Yolŋu or Balanda - what matters most is your commitment to walking together and learning with respect.

Essential:

Cert IV in Training and Assessment

Experience in DFSV prevention or community education

A deep respect for Yolŋu culture (or a strong desire to learn)

Understanding of LGBTQIA+ inclusion and Rainbow Tick standards

Skills in facilitation and creating safe learning spaces

Trauma-informed and healing-centred practice

Desirable:

Experience developing resources for cross-cultural education

Knowledge of Rainbow Tick or inclusive workplace practices

Lived experience of healing, family support, or community safety

Why Join Us?
