About the role
Join the dedicated team at the Darwin Centre Against Sexual Violence as a Counsellor. This is a full-time position however we are prepared to be flexible for the right person. Based in Palmerston, NT, you will provide high-quality counselling and support services to individuals and families in our diverse communities who are impacted by sexual violence.
We highly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply for this position.
What you'll be doing
Deliver one-on-one sessions for clients in a safe and compassionate environment
Develop and implement personalised treatment plans to address the unique needs of each client
Contribution to group sessions as required
Support clients through immediate challenges, and long-term goals
Maintain accurate client records, case notes and data collection in line with organisational policies
Contribute to the continuous improvement of counselling services through feedback and evaluation
Working with children from the ages of five to 17yrs, women, and gender diverse people
What we're looking for
Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or a related field
Minimum 2 years' experience providing counselling services, particularly in the area of sexual violence
Demonstrated ability to establish trust and rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds
Strong active listening and empathetic communication skills
Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and best practices
Experience a working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is essential
Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail
Commitment to ongoing professional development and clinical supervision
Experience of working with diverse clients is expected
Experience in Play Therapy would be welcome
Must be registered with an appropriate professional body (i.e. APHRA, AASW, ACA, APA)
