About the role
This is a full-time opportunity for an Advanced Child Protection Practitioner to join the Department of Families, Fairness & Housing. We have opportunities in Portland, Hamilton & Horsham. In this crucial role, you will work to protect children and support vulnerable families, making a real difference in the community.
What you'll be doing
Providing high-quality, advanced-level child protection services to children and families in the Portland, Hamilton and Horsham regions
Assessing risk and safety concerns, developing case plans and implementing interventions to support children and families
Collaborating with other professionals and agencies to deliver integrated and coordinated services
Determining case plans (including stability plans, cultural plans and therapeutic treatment plans) for the safety and wellbeing of children, and
Managing complex cases, problem solving and presenting matters to the Children's Court of Victoria as required
Serving as a mentor and resource for less experienced child protection practitioners
What we're looking for
Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, or a related field
Minimum two years' experience working in child protection, children welfare and family services with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and policies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and work effectively with children, families and other stakeholders
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in complex situations
Demonstrated commitment to child-centred practice and the ability to advocate for the best interests of children

Assessment Stages and Key Dates
If shortlisted for a CPP4 role, you will be required to undertake online psychometric and personality assessments by a set date.
Anticipated online Assessment Centers: Advanced (CPP4): Week commencing Monday 28 July 2025. Dates will be advised to progressing candidates once confirmed
Commencement Dates: All new child protection employees to the department are required to complete one week of mandatory online training modules from Monday 22 September 2025.
Following this, it is mandatory to attend the full-time five-week Practice Induction Program (PIP) commencing on Tuesday 30 September 2025. PIP is designed to provide new staff to the child protection program with the necessary practice of knowledge and skills relating to the role.
Successful candidates will be required to attend the PIP training in person in Melbourne. Travel/accommodation arrangements may be included for regional candidates.
Note: preferred candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening including national police check, international police check (if required), misconduct screening, qualification checks and two professional reference checks.
