About the position:
The Education Officer will deliver Legal Studies learning programs for Stage 6 students and teachers with a view to including an additional program for History students in Stage 5. The program – Legal Studies and the Legislature - covers Part 1: The legal system and Part 2: The individual and the law of the Legal Studies Stage 6 syllabus (2009). This program is delivered onsite or online via Teams or Zoom. The onsite program is made up of a 90 to 120-minute session which is conducted in the Parliamentary Education Centre. The program also includes components in the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council Chamber (or galleries for Parliamentary sitting days). The online program includes an interactive 60-minute ZOOM or Teams learning session.

Based in NSW Parliament, the Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is a specialist service department working to support the operation of the Parliament of NSW by providing logistical support and advice to members, the Departments of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly and the people of New South Wales. About you:
You’re a passionate and experienced educator with a strong background in teaching HSIE subjects—particularly History, Legal Studies, and Commerce in NSW secondary schools. You must have a solid grasp of civics and citizenship education, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
You have recent experience designing and delivering interactive learning programs for Stage 5 and 6 students, both in person and via videoconferencing. Confident in using content-rich resources and emerging technologies, you create dynamic, curriculum-aligned experiences.
You’re collaborative, professional, and build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. You understand the unique environment of Parliament and approach your work with respect for its role, reputation, and traditions.

Essential attributes:
- Current NSW Working With Children Check
- Recent experience teaching HSIE (particularly History, Legal Studies and Commerce) in NSW secondary schools
Desirable attributes:
- Experience in teaching Stage 6 Legal Studies.
- Ability to be flexible with booking of programs (min one week’s notice for bookings)
- Accredited to teach in NSW schools
- A familiarity with the structure and role of the Parliament of NSW
