About the role

Join a team dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality rail infrastructure. As a Rail Systems Engineer, you'll lead and support projects focused on the development, replacement, and monitoring of communication and control systems. You'll be involved in system design, installation, commissioning, and testing, while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements. The role also includes stakeholder coordination, resolving technical issues, supervising junior staff, and maintaining PTA assets through investigations and maintenance support.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you’ll contribute to project and financial management by overseeing medium-complexity projects, monitoring budgets, and preparing key documentation such as business cases and consultancy briefs. You'll also conduct system inspections, analyse performance, and produce technical reports. This role requires a proactive approach to safety, a strong understanding of industry trends, and the ability to act on behalf of the line manager when required. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in improving and sustaining critical rail systems across the network.

About You!

To excel in this role, you should possess:

Holds an Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification meeting IEAust membership requirements, with recent experience in the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of communications or control systems infrastructure.

Proven experience in managing projects and contracts, ensuring compliance with technical standards, safety regulations, and operational requirements.

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, field staff, and key stakeholders while working independently when needed.

Proven ability to apply engineering methods to analyse and resolve issues, supported by strong research and evaluation skills, along with effective time management to meet targets and deadlines.
