Senior Android Engineer – Sydney – Perm Opportunity

The Role

My client is looking for an experienced Senior Android Developer to join the mobile team and take a lead role in designing, developing, and maintaining cutting-edge Android applications. The ideal candidate will be deeply familiar with core Android development, library creation and distribution, and have practical experience or strong interest in cross-platform technologies and modern app development practices.

This is for a global organisation who assist in the safe travel of millions of customers every year. They provide software & IT support to enhance communications & IT infrastructure for the transport industry.

What you will be doing?

• Design, build, and maintain advanced applications for the Android platform.
• Own and manage the creation and distribution of Android libraries (AARs) and SDKs across internal and external teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
• Integrate with RESTful APIs, third-party SDKs, and modern back-end services.
• Apply best practices in mobile architecture (MVVM, Clean Architecture, etc.) and software engineering.
• Contribute to the evaluation and adoption of cross-platform tools (e.g., Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile, Flutter, or React Native) where appropriate.
• Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency.
• Mentor junior developers and contribute to code reviews, architectural decisions, and engineering excellence.

Your skills

• Recent experience with modern programming languages Kotlin / Java / Swift
• Expertise in developing native Android apps
• Proficient in building modern Android UI with Jetpack compose
• Experience with internal library distribution & maintenance
• Any experience with AI powered development tools is highly desirable
• Kotlin multiplatform for cross platform development is highly desirable
