Your role:
Be a tradie in the Navy ensuring ships are kept in peak working order, by maintaining auxiliary systems and welding the ship’s hull and structural fittings. Whether you already have a trade, you're an apprentice, or you have no experience at all, you'll be paid from day one.
As a Fabricator (known in the Navy as Marine Technician – Hull), you'll gain all the skills needed with extensive on-the-job trade training and get a Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication, with opportunities to obtain further qualifications (up to and including a Diploma). You may also be able to use your existing qualifications and be eligible for recognition of prior learning.

Your duties include, but aren’t limited to maintaining:
Auxiliary systems
Freshwater generation plants
Stabilisers
Air compressors
Ship’s hull and structural fittings

Salary:
Upon completion of your initial military and employment training, you’ll enjoy a salary package starting from $75,451 for surface fleet and $94,054 for submariners.
Period of Service requirements:
General Entry Sailor roles now have an Initial Minimum Period of Service (IMPS) between 2 and 3 years for all applicants.
Fitness requirements:
A Pre-entry Fitness Assessment (PFA) is no longer a requirement for Navy roles, except for Divers. To join the Navy, it's important that you meet the necessary medical and physical requirements. Regular exercise prior to joining will set you up for success as it is an important part of training and service life.
Once you join, Navy will support your physical conditioning to ensure you're prepared to serve. You'll also have access to chef-made meals, gyms, sports and fitness sessions run by physical training instructors.

For this role, you must be over 17 at time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen and have passed Year 10 English, Maths and Science.
