Transform Mental Health: Lead Peer Support, Develop Programs, Advocate for Change.

Are you ready to shape the future of mental health care? The newly built Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Noarlunga Hospital is opening its doors, offering a fresh, state-of-the-art environment in Adelaide's vibrant southern suburbs. This isn't just a job; it's a chance to join a groundbreaking facility from day one.

Are you ready to transform mental health services through the power of your lived experience? We're seeking a passionate Senior Peer Specialist to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team within SALHN. In this pivotal role, you'll draw on your unique journey of recovery to provide peer-informed, consumer-led rehabilitation services, championing hope, empowerment, and human rights. You will lead the integration of lived experience expertise across our services, mentor and supervise other Peer Specialists, and drive the development of innovative peer-led initiatives. This is an unparalleled opportunity to influence policy, contribute to research, and ensure that the consumer voice remains at the heart of mental health rehabilitation.

About the role:

Duties for the role will include:

  • Utilise your lived experience to build authentic peer relationships, support consumers in self-management, and guide them through their recovery journeys.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide supervision to other Peer Specialists, ensuring adherence to peer work values, principles, and frameworks.
  • Advocate for consumer needs and human rights within the multidisciplinary team, contributing to destigmatisation and culturally safe care.
  • Develop and deliver peer-led educational programs and resources, promoting understanding of recovery, well-being, and self-management strategies.

About you:

  • You bring invaluable personal experience of mental health challenges and your own journey of recovery, with a strong ability to build authentic, trusting relationships and model relatable recovery pathways.
  • You hold (or are actively pursuing) a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, coupled with highly developed advocacy and partnership-building skills, ready to champion consumer perspectives within a multidisciplinary team.
  • You possess strong group facilitation skills and a proven ability to engage effectively with consumers, their support networks, and community services to enhance well-being and independence.
  • You thrive in a team environment, demonstrating professional resilience, self-reflective practice, and a commitment to quality, safety, and inclusive care for all.
