Research Assistant

FTE: 0.2 (one day a week)

Gorenang Moortabiin Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a passionate and community-minded Research Assistant to join our groundbreaking Maaman Waankiny Wur Walbriny (Men Talking and Healing) Project. This important initiative will conduct a feasibility study exploring how on-Country cultural healing activities can strengthen the cultural determinants of health, spirit and wellbeing for Aboriginal Maaman (men).

We are working within an Indigenous methodological framework using co-design and participatory action researchto ensure the project is led by community, for community.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in culturally appropriate community consultations and on-Country engagements

Support participatory research design, data collection, and analysis

Help maintain accurate records, field notes, and contribute to reporting

Liaise with Maaman participants, Elders, community members, and partner organisations

Contribute to building research capacity within the organisation

Ensure research activities align with Indigenous data sovereignty and ethical frameworks

Selection Criteria

Demonstrated understanding of and respect for Aboriginal culture and community-led research

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills

Experience in community-based projects or qualitative research methods (desirable)

Ability to work collaboratively in a team, including with Elders and cultural leaders

A commitment to cultural safety and strengths-based approaches

A ‘C’ class drivers licence.

National Police Clearance

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, particularly Maaman, are strongly encouraged to apply
