About your new role
The Media Officer is responsible for assisting with the delivery of media and communications activities to meet the operational and project-related needs of the organisation.
This will include providing timely and accurate media responses to media enquiries, identifying and developing positive media opportunities, public information and warnings during a disaster or emergency response and writing media releases.
Responsibilities include:
• Work collaboratively to build and maintain relationships with journalists.
• Write, edit and distribute media releases and media statements to meet deadlines.
• Coordinate and host press conferences and other media opportunities to positively promote the City.
• Work with other departments to ensure consistent and accurate messaging by following branch and City guidelines.
• Write key messages and brief the Mayor’s office to facilitate timely and accurate information.
• Manage media monitoring and distributing media reports to internal stakeholders.
• Provide guidance via Public Information and Warnings support for disaster management by following City policy and procedures
• Ensure that communications adhere to the City Communication Guide and relevant policies and legal requirements.
• Provides relevant subject matter expertise to support business planning across the organisation and strengthen the reputation of the Media & Communications team as valued business advisors.
• The Media Officer is part of the Media & Communications Team, which sits within the Office of the CEO. Therefore, close working relationships with the broader team are essential to foster information sharing and collaboration for both internal and external audiences.
• Complete administration duties including filing to meet record keeping standards
We're looking for people who have:
• Diploma in Communication, Public Relations or a related field or equivalent experience
• Proven experience in communications, preferably in a public sector or large organisational setting.
