ABOUT New Wave Latrobe Valley and the Self Advocacy Resource Unit
New Wave Latrobe Valley is a small work team that includes this role (3 days a week) and a Peer Worker (1 day a week). The work team will set up a self advocacy group in Latrobe Valley to be run by and for people with intellectual disabilities and/or an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). The Latrobe Valley Self Advocacy Group will be strongly connected to the Latrobe Valley community and to the wider Victorian Self Advocacy Network (VSAN).
The Self Advocacy Resource Unit (SARU) supports and resources self advocacy groups for people with intellectual disability, people with acquired brain injury and people with complex communication needs. SARU works with self advocacy groups across Victoria, including New Wave Latrobe Valley.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is vital to the growth of self advocacy across Latrobe Valley.
It is a 3 day per week part-time role.
The Latrobe Valley Project Worker will:
Support, supervise and build capacity of the Peer Worker
Work closely with Peer Worker to set up, grow and support a Latrobe Valley Self Advocacy group
Support people with intellectual disabilities and/or ABI to run the Latrobe Valley Self Advocacy group
Develop and action a Latrobe Valley Self Advocacy community plan to connect to the local community
Contribute to a knowledge bank that helps self advocacy groups to be more effective in their role
The New Wave Latrobe Valley Project Worker will work as part of a small team of Project Workers across the state.
ABOUT YOU
You will have a strong understanding of self-advocacy, disability rights, and community inclusion. You will bring proven skills in group facilitation, accessible resource creation, and community engagement, along with a commitment to inclusive practices and human rights. Strong communication, organisational, and digital skills are essential, as well as the ability to work collaboratively and manage competing priorities. A Victorian driver’s licence, police check, and up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations are required. Qualifications in community-related fields are desirable.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
This is a SCHACDS Award Level 5 position with above award conditions including an additional annual leave on work days between Christmas Day and New Years Day. Salary packaging is available with flexible work conditions.
