About Brodie

Brodie is a music enthusiast and sensory explorer who loves deep bass, strong vibrations, and colourful, flashing lights. His growing collection of speakers fills his space with sound and energy that he feels throughout his body. He enjoys swimming, where he finds freedom and calm in the movement of water and its reflections, and cycling outdoors, where he soaks up the fresh air and the feeling of wind on his face. Brodie is drawn to activities with clear cause-and-effect—pressing buttons, activating devices, and exploring technology that responds to his actions. He is also developing his role as a visual storyteller, using his iPad to take photos and selfies that capture the people, places, and experiences that are meaningful to him.

About Brodie’s Magic

Brodie’s Magic is a family-governed not-for-profit, service-for-one built entirely around one incredible person: Brodie. Everything we do is shaped by knowing him deeply—his rhythms, his joys, his communication style, and the things that make his life meaningful. This isn’t shift work in a system. It’s being part of a trusted, close-knit team that works together with purpose, creativity, and care.

As a Lifestyle Assistant, you won’t be just another employee—you’ll be a key part of a team that’s truly invested in Brodie’s growth, happiness, and connection. You’ll be supported by people who know and love him, have clear processes in place, and value your contribution. If you’re someone who notices the small things, values real connection, and wants your work to matter every day, you’ll find something pretty special here.

Starting Arrangement

To make sure this role is the right fit for both you and Brodie, new team members will start on a casual basis. This allows time to get to know the team, understand the expectations, and demonstrate commitment and alignment.

If it’s a strong match, and both sides agree, there will be an opportunity to transition to a part-time role (approximately 20–25 hours/week) with regular hours.

Purpose of the Role

The Lifestyle Assistant role provides respectful, person-centred support that places Brodie at the centre of all decisions and daily activities. Guided by a family-governed model, Lifestyle Assistants work as part of a close-knit team to help Brodie build his independence, communicate in his own way, stay active and healthy, and live a life 0that is safe, connected, and meaningful. This role goes beyond providing care—it’s about enabling Brodie to pursue his goals, grow his skills, and participate fully in his home and community life.

Duties

Support Brodie with daily routines and personal goals, including mealtimes, communication, mobility, and community access.

Assist him to use his AAC, motorised wheelchair, and other tools to express himself and engage with the world around him.

Provide respectful, adult-to-adult support by speaking directly to Brodie, involving him in decisions, and treating him with dignity.

Read and respond to Brodie’s non-verbal cues with patience, awareness, and care.

Support Brodie to participate in activities he enjoys—such as music, swimming, cycling, using his iPad, and exploring the outdoors.

Maintain Brodie’s safety and comfort by following established routines, safe practices, and communication preferences.

Keep clear and timely records using Podio, including shift notes, handovers, incidents, and goal progress.

Attend and actively contribute to team meetings and planning sessions, reflecting on what’s working and identifying areas for improvement.

Work as part of a small, family-governed team—sharing responsibilities, communicating openly, and supporting continuous learning.

We’re Looking for People Who Are:

Person-centred and values-driven

Reliable, flexible, and dependable

Observant, calm, and responsive

Team players who share the load

Confident communicators who raise concerns constructively

Purposeful and proactive—not here to “just hang out”

Manual handling and mobility support

Use of assistive technology (willingness to learn)

Strong observation and communication skills

Understanding of respectful, adult-to-adult support

NDIS Worker Screening Check (or ability to obtain)

First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain)

Desirable

Experience with AAC, powered wheelchairs, or physical supports

Familiarity with family-governed/person-directed models

Manual handling experience

Comfort with digital tools like Podio

Availability Requirements

We are a small, dedicated team, so reliability and flexibility are key. If you’re often unavailable to help cover shifts, this may not be the right fit.

You’ll need to be available for around 20 hours/week during school terms, and up to 25 hours/week during holidays or when covering staff leave.

Availability across the full week, including weekends, is required as part of a shared and rotating roster.

How to Apply

Provide your CV and a cover letter that answers the following 3 questions.
Applications without answers to these questions will not be considered.

How would you support someone who doesn’t use words to make their own choices and be part of decisions?

What do you think makes someone a good team member in a small, person-focused support team like Brodie’s?

Can you give an example of a time you supported someone to become more independent—even in a small way?
