The role & team

Join us as a Registered Nurse in our nurse-led clinic at Mount Gambier Prison, reporting to our Health Services Manager. You'll work within a supportive team of 10 Registered & Enrolled Nurses, our 2 Medical Administration Officers and our part-time GP. We're looking for someone with great observational skills and the confidence to do systematic clinical assessments on prisoners. In the role you will:

• Undertake clinical assessments on prisoners which could include taking blood, checking blood pressure, temperature checks, dipstick tests, checking bowel sounds, urinalysis, and more.
• Issue medication like insulin & methadone - Thursday is a particularly busy medication day onsite.
• Provide wound care & assist with work injuries.
• Receive and provide support from our onsite GP.
• Assist with unexpected events, such as reported chest pain.

Remuneration

Registered Nurses are paid under the Registered Nurse Award Level 2.4 rates, which is an approximate annual salary of circa $95,000. We also provide a weekly $100 Mount Gambier Prison Nurse Allowance on top of the rates below:

• Weekdays - $38.36
• Saturdays - $57.54
• Sundays - $67.13

You will also receive a $10,000 bonus after 12 months in the role.

What we're looking for

• A completed Bachelor of Nursing
• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA)
• Holder of professional indemnity insurance, or willing to get this before commencement (nurse unions provide this for members)
• Holder of first aid & CPR, or willing to get this before starting (we can pay for this and enrol you in a course)

• After this you will be invited to a 30-minute online interview via Google Meet or an onsite interview, depending on your location.
• If successful, you will need to submit an application for a prison clearance, and we will need clearance before you can start onsite (*this can take up to 4 weeks after submission*).

G4S has operated Mount Gambier Prison (MGP) end-to-end since 1995, as a low to medium security campus style prison. Providing various work and education programs to male prisoners, our aim is to rehabilitate offenders and reduce re-offending.
