About the role:

In this position, the Associate Research Fellow will support a REACH funded project focussed on the transformation of organic waste into anode active materials for sodium ion batteries. The Associate Research Fellow will conduct laboratory-based research into pyrolysis of organic waste-based materials, including chemical and physical and electrochemical characterisation of the feedstocks and the resulting materials. They will also conduct desk-based research into relevant case studies and existing literature.

As an Associate Research Fellow, you will:

  • Conduct high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs, with mentorship
  • Engage collaboratively to participate in novel and high-quality research or creative activities
  • Communicate outputs, including as part of team
  • Ensure impact of academic activity on the field and the community
  • Support and may lead applications for funding for research and creative activities

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD and/or other relevant qualifications and experience in materials science/engineering, electrochemical science or related disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience with electrode active material preparation and electrochemical studies and physical and chemical characterization of feedstocks and pyrolyzed materials
  • Emerging research and scholarship through publications, and/or exhibitions as appropriate to the discipline
  • Ability to contribute to communities through research
  • Capacity to contribute to teaching, research and administration
