The Opportunity

We are currently working on a number of vacancies, including a 12-18 month non-ongoing APS6 Financial Accountant role with one of the most sought-after government departments. This role is centrally located, offers a competitive salary, and has strong potential to transition to a permanent position as it’s a vacant position.

Another opportunity is a 12-month non-ongoing APS6 Financial Accountant contract with a view to permanency. This position is well-suited to someone looking for career growth and offers a highly flexible working environment.

For candidates seeking shorter-term engagements and hourly rate contract, we also have a labour hire contract available at the APS6 or EL1 level. This contract is initially for two to three months, with an hourly rate of $70/hr - $100/hr plus Super, and would suit someone with strong financial accounting skills within APS, who is available to start at short notice.

The Role

As an APS6 Financial Accountant, your key responsibilities may include:

• Preparing financial statements for reporting to the Department of Finance and Departmental Executive
• Preparing journals, including monthly upload journals from various finance systems
• Supporting the preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and annual financial statements
• Participating in month-end and year-end ledger close functions for the departmental or administered ledger
• Liaising with the Australian National Audit Office on audit requests and coordinating financial statements audit activity

The Ideal Person

You have a solid understanding of financial accounting and are confident working in a team environment. Strong accounting knowledge, the ability to meet deadlines, and experience preparing financial statements within the APS will be key to your success.

You are likely to come from one of the following backgrounds:

• Experience at the Senior Associate or manager level in a Big 4 or similar consulting firm, supporting Federal Government clients in financial accounting or external audit
• Previous experience working within the Federal Government in a financial accounting role at the APS6 level or higher

Applicant must be Australian Citizens and have an existing baseline security clearance to be considered for these opportunities.

Salary / Rate

• Non-ongoing contract: $95k - $110k + 15.4% Super
• Labour hire contract: $70/hr - $100/hr + 11.5% Super
