Epilepsy Educator & Support Navigator – Living Well Team
Be the calm voice, the guiding hand, and the trusted connection that helps Queenslanders with epilepsy live well. 💜
📍 Location: Brisbane | 🕒 0.8FTE | 💼 SCHADS Award Level 4 | Some after-hours & travel required
We’re looking for a compassionate, people-first professional who’s ready to jump in, listen deeply, and walk alongside others as they navigate the challenges of life with epilepsy. This role combines the power of information, connection, advocacy and education - helping people with lived experience take control and feel supported every step of the way.
Why Join Us?
At Epilepsy Queensland, we walk alongside the 50,000 Queenslanders living with or impacted by epilepsy, ensuring they have access to the support, understanding, and opportunities they deserve through comprehensive support, education and connection. To make that vision a reality, we are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and outcomes-driven team member.
You’ll be part of a courageous and collaborative team, where your contribution truly matters.
What success looks like ✅
You build trust quickly, supporting people with empathy and equipping them with tools to feel more confident and capable in their epilepsy journey.
You make the complex feel clear and the overwhelming feel possible – from NDIS access and information support to management plans and everything in between.
You strengthen relationships with key health, education and disability partners – growing a supportive, informed community around each person we serve.
Your presence in the Living Well Team is known, valued and appreciated. You show up with courage, collaboration and care.
A day in the life… 📅
Supporting individuals and families with person-centred information, referral and psychosocial support, to build their capacity to self-manage and thrive
Responding to calls, emails and enquiries, ensuring all customers feel heard and supported in a timely, respectful and professional way
Delivering face to face or virtual epilepsy education for individuals and families – and helping train schools, health and community services to become epilepsy smart
Developing Epilepsy Management Plans and completing individual support needs assessments
Supporting people to navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and ensuring access to relevant EQ services
Building partnerships with health, disability and education providers to strengthen support options and community inclusion
Capturing data with care – using EQ’s systems to document and report on outcomes and impacts accurately and ethically
Rolling up your sleeves to support Living Well Team projects, events and admin tasks as needed – we’re all in this together 💪
What you will bring 🧠
A relevant qualification in human services (e.g. disability, nursing, teaching, counselling, psychology, social work), or substantial related experience. Nursing qualifications are preferred.
Experience in face to face or virtual training
Strong communication and interpersonal skills – with the ability to connect with people from all walks of life
Experience applying capacity-building frameworks to help people manage their own health and wellbeing
Solid knowledge (or willingness to learn) about epilepsy and its impacts
Organised, responsive and calm under pressure – you’re great at managing priorities and know when to ask for support
Tech confident – experienced in using Microsoft Office and CRM systems (such as Dynamics)
Flexible with your time – available for occasional & rostered out-of-hours work and regional travel as needed
A genuine team player with a collaborative spirit
You’ll also need
Eligibility for a Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening and national police check
A current Australian driver’s licence
Desirable (but not essential):
Knowledge of the NDIS
Knowledge of Human Services Quality Standards
Why join us? 🌈
We’re a small but mighty team that shows up every day for something bigger than ourselves. We support each other, celebrate wins, and aren’t afraid to try new things in service of a better outcome for the people we work with.
If you want your work to matter – and to be surrounded by people who believe deeply in what they do – this is the place.
Sound Like You?
If you’re energised by social impact, believe in the power of lived experience, and want to be part of a bold and supportive team — we want to hear from you.
Put your best foot forward – create a compelling cover letter that tells us why you are the right fit this position. Your cover letter should be no more than two pages and should demonstrate how your experience aligns with the position.
