Key responsibilities

As Director, Ethical Standards Group, you will specifically:

  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Establish and maintain strong and constructive working relationships, with key internal stakeholders, executives and the Director-General and provide advice on issues of a sensitive and complex nature pertaining to instances of corrupt conduct within the department.
  • Support executives and the Director-General through advice, the assessment and investigation of referred matters to maintain for the workforce appropriate levels of conduct, performance and practice.
  • Lead and manage DYJVS ethical standards group to drive transformational change to the assessment and investigation of employee performance and conduct matters to achieve efficient and better outcomes for the Department and impacted individuals, consistent with legislative requirements, best practice and highest levels of probity.
  • Contribute to relevant sections of the department's integrity framework by leading on key integrity initiatives and effectively responding to government integrity and accountability reforms.
  • Lead the department's strategy to enhance its approach to ethical and professional standards including the development and implementation of programs, policies, workplace procedures and frameworks on official misconduct, integrity and ethics issues.
  • Design and implement corporate education training programs to develop leadership and management capability on public sector ethics.
  • Manage and oversee the assessment of allegations and referrals under the Crime and Corruption Act 2001
  • Manage and oversee public interest disclosures and ensure compliance with the requirements in the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2010.
  • Provide advice on conflicts of interest, secondary employment, and other integrity matters and manage associated reporting.
  • Establish and maintain effective strategic working relationships with all relevant external stakeholders, such as the Queensland Police Service, the Crime and Corruption Commission, the Public Service Commission, the Queensland Ombudsman and the Office of the Public Guardian to manage highly complex and sensitive complaints and ethical issues, ensuing that the reputation and interests of the department are protected and principles of due process and natural justice are adhered to.
  • Represent the department at significant forums relating to public sector integrity and ethics issues actively promoting investigative processes to staff and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee and prepare complex reports, correspondence, briefing notes and submissions to decision makers, senior management, Director-General, Audit and Risk Committee and other diverse audiences.
  • Foster the development of team members by providing leadership, guidance, coaching, ongoing assessment and feedback on performance and by promoting and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure effective management of human, financial and physical resources in line with department policies and procedures and within the position's human resource and financial delegations.
  • Promote an accountable, fair and safe work environment through the implementation of management practices, policies and procedures, including achievement planning and equal employment/anti-discrimination.
