As the Principal Scientist, you will:
• Lead, coordinate and contribute to the research, development, implementation and continuous improvement of methods and standards for time series analysis and change detection; and apply your skills in contemporary programming languages and skills (such as Python, Postgres SQL/Post GIS, APIS, containers, cloud based and hybrid computing) to build and maintain proactive compliance systems.
• Represent DETSI in legal and court proceedings and present expert, technical remote sensing science evidence for environmental and vegetation management compliance cases.
• Have a mind-set of continuous improvement by leading and mentoring staff, supervising research and providing critical peer review of scientific methods, results and associated documentation.
For this role, you'll need to:
• Demonstrate your high-level research and development skills and experience to plan, implement and deliver operational landscape mapping and monitoring products in high performance computing environments, using satellite, airborne and groundbased digital data; high performance computing, cloud-based and hybrid computing would be considered favourably.
• Demonstrate extensive knowledge of, and experience in contemporary remote sensing and spatial sciences for monitoring, assessment and mapping of landscape features, particularly for environmental change and/or environmental compliance.
• Demonstrate your proven ability and experience in satellite imagery interpretation and analysis, and the delivery of scientifically defensible spatial information products, preferably with experience in supporting legal proceedings or providing scientific advice or information for high-level decision-making.
