About the Position
The Traffic Engineer works within the Infrastructure Asset Management Team with the Senior Traffic and Transport Coordinator and Traffic Technical Officer. Our traffic division work collaboratively to improve road safety and road user experience, understanding the safety, capacity and efficiency of our road network. We underpin the work we do on the Safe Systems Approach. Our network is highly diverse including metropolitan, peri-urban and rural roads through suburban, coastal and wine region areas.
Specifically, this position responds to the majority of requests received through our Elected Members and Members of Parliament and provides support to the Traffic Technical Officer in responding to customer enquiries. The role also provides advice and feedback to internal and external stakeholders regarding new developments, capital works projects, other public and private works and events to ensure optimization of our network and works with external stakeholders such as SAPOL and DIT.
The Traffic Engineer has varying levels of involvement in distinct traffic projects associated with speed limit reviews, school partnerships, feasibility studies and reports.
About You
You are a passionate traffic engineer who enjoys collaborating and working with a broad range of stakeholders to improve the safety of the road network. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be an expert in the traffic engineering field. Experience in a Local or State Government workplace is highly regarded.
Key Selection Criteria. Experience in:
- Assessing and responding to requests for traffic engineering change on a road network
- Knowledge of Land Divisions and Development Applications in terms of traffic generation and impacts on the broader transport network.
- Knowledge and understanding of appropriate and accepted traffic control devices and their application, limitations and benefits.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Passion for working collaboratively with all stakeholders to deliver best outcomes for the community
