Position overview
Within the Organisational Development Program in the Enterprise Services Group, People Connect provides operational Human Resource (HR) recruitment, pay and conditions advice and services to the Bureau's employees. We provide a digital channel (Cherwell) as the first point of contact for all support queries and incidents, with outstanding customer service. We serve the Bureau's geographically interspersed workforce, and our work is interesting, challenging and varied.
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated APS pay and conditions specialist with a strong work ethic to become a member of the Bureau's Payroll Team. You will undertake tasks associated with the assessment and payment of employee conditions of employment, including the processing of entitlements using SAP HRMS, providing advice to employees and preparing associated correspondence and documentation.
In this role, you will collaborate with others while following established processes and using your judgment to make decisions. As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will handle day-to-day payroll transactions, assist the Payroll Services Team Leader with work distribution, and manage complex payroll tasks such as leave audits, under/overpayments, redundancy calculations, and taxation queries.
You will also support team members at lower classifications in their development and encourage career advancement.
The successful candidate will be required to work with minimal supervision in achieving the team's required outputs in an accurate and timely manner.
Role responsibilities
The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
1. Assess and process salary, superannuation, salary advancements, penalty payments, overtime, separation entitlements and calculations, leave and allowances and prepare/undertake associated transactions using the Bureau's Human Resource Management (HRMS) System, SAP.
2. Advise staff on conditions of service matters in areas of remuneration, superannuation, final entitlements, flexible working conditions, parental leave, long service leave, and allowance and related matters.
3. Ability to interpret legislation relating to shift work and overtime entitlements.
4. Preparing associated correspondence and submissions, requiring attention to detail in relation to a wide range of payroll matters.
5. Ensure all customer interactions are logged using the service management tool (Cherwell) to manage workflow and recording all policy advice to employees to resolve enquiries/incidents. Facilitate further escalation of more complex tickets and work closely with OD/HR subject matter experts and multi-disciplinary teams.
6. Understand and comply with legislation, industrial awards and their application by maintaining an up-to-date technical expertise and knowledge base through reviewing Payroll and HR policies, process and procedures.
7. Work productively under limited direction and minimal supervision on moderate tasks, priorities and self-managed workload.
8. Where required, assist the Senior People Connect Advisor to collect, monitor, analyse and escalate ticket patterns and trends, to inform and deliver innovative initiatives contributing to continuous improvement of products and services and change.
