We recognise your contribution to our workforce and offer generous remuneration and conditions including:

  • Six weeks (30 days) of paid annual leave per year + additional paid Christmas stand down
  • 4 extra days of mandatory rest leave per year
  • 18 days of paid personal leave per year

  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangement that provides work/life balance
  • Health & wellbeing services – with a focus on early intervention, education and prevention
  • Access to ongoing training and professional development opportunities

What is the role?

A key strategy of the AFP to combat serious crime is removing the profit from crime and preventing its reinvestment in further criminal enterprise. The AFP led Criminal Asset Confiscation Taskforce (CACT) is a multi-agency taskforce with primary responsibility for the investigation and civil litigation of Commonwealth proceeds of crime matters on behalf of the Commissioner of the AFP. Criminal Assets Litigation (CAL) is the AFP's national in-house legal practice responsible for the provision of independent legal advice and those civil litigation services. The CAL Information Management team (CAL IM) provides essential support to CAL’s capacity to conduct the litigation properly and efficiently and to meet the conditions of the Attorney-General's approval under the Legal Services Directions 2017 (Cth) for the AFP to use CAL as a solicitor on the record. CAL IM does this in three main ways.

First, by supporting General Counsel by ensuring there is effective management of coercive material in the CACT through high levels of compliance with the Standard Operating Procedure on Proceeds of Crime Act Information and Coercive Material (SOP).

Second, by building efficiency and professionalism within CAL by ensuring CAL lawyers have the tools and capability to do their jobs to the highest possible standard, with a focus on identifying digital solutions to streamline CAL work, coordinating and creating a culture of cross-jurisdictional knowledge capture processes, and developing skills through in-house continuing legal education programs and an annual national conference.

Third, by supporting the broader CAL practice by assisting with litigation, including overflow litigation, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships inside and outside the AFP and building the profile of CAL.

What will you do?

CAL IM is a small Sydney based team comprised of CAL lawyers and a Band 4 Senior Paralegal (who perform hybrid CAL and CAL IM work). CAL IM is looking for a Band 4 Senior Paralegal in Sydney to join the team and fill an anticipated vacancy.

As a member of the AFP, you will be required to contribute to the achievement of organisational outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.
