We're looking for an experienced policy officer to join the Land Operations Support team as a Principal Policy Officer. Based at 1 William Street, Brisbane, this AO7 role is permanent and full-time. This role leads and supports policy work related to the Land Act, Stock Route Management Act and Place Names Act. You'll provide advice on legislative changes, write policy documents and coordinate consultation across the department and with other agencies. Your work will support changes to how land and stock route systems are managed across Queensland.
Key duties and responsibilities
• Lead or contribute to policy reviews, including statutory reviews.
• Draft and review reports, briefings, legislation, and advice for senior staff.
• Work with stakeholders across government, industry and the community.
• Represent the department at interagency meetings.
• Research and analyse policy and legislative issues.
• Support business improvement projects and internal engagement.
• Manage deadlines and oversee project tasks across teams.
We're looking for someone who
Can think critically, write clearly and manage competing deadlines. You'll need experience working with legislation, policies or government processes, and a strong understanding of how to manage projects and relationships in a structured environment. You should be confident dealing with senior staff and contributing to internal reforms. Written communication is key, as is the ability to explain complex matters in a clear and practical way. A current driver's licence is desirable. You'll work in a team of 12 with other policy and operations staff. This role has no direct reports but works closely with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders.
