Position Overview
We are seeking a commercially focused, results-driven leader to join us as a full-time Area Manager, supporting the operational and financial performance of our 23-store portfolio. In this role, you will work closely with Store Managers and the wider management team to drive sustainable business growth through strong financial oversight, data-driven decision-making, sales support, and operational efficiency.
Reporting to Head of Retail, you will leverage analytics and operational insight to support profitability improvements, reduce wastage, optimize costs, maximise sales, and enhance overall store performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Support & Business Performance
Assist in managing the P&L for your assigned retail stores by supporting budgeting, forecasting, and margin improvement initiatives.
Monitor and analyse financial and operational data—including sales performance, labour costs, inventory shrinkage, and wastage—to identify and recommend improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with Store Managers to translate financial insights into effective strategies that support profitability, sales growth, and operational efficiency.
Support cost control initiatives and contribute to maintaining financial governance across stores.
2. Sales Growth & Business Development
Partner with Store Managers and senior management to develop and implement sales strategies that maximise revenue and market share.
Analyse sales trends, customer behaviour, and competitor activity to recommend opportunities for growth and product mix optimisation.
Work with marketing and merchandising teams to support local promotions, seasonal campaigns, and product launches that increase store traffic and customer conversion.
Initiatives aimed at improving average transaction value, customer retention, and repeat business.
Assist in identifying and nurturing new business opportunities, partnerships, and community engagement initiatives to enhance brand presence.
3. Operational Standards & Compliance
Ensure consistent application of company policies, health & safety regulations, food safety, and quality standards across all stores.
Participate in operational audits and business reviews to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
Drive continuous improvements in inventory management, supply chain coordination, and loss prevention practices.
4. Staffing & Workforce Management
Oversee and approve staff rosters and timesheets to maintain efficient labour scheduling and cost control.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and staff training initiatives alongside Store Managers.
Address and resolve employee grievances promptly and fairly, ensuring workplace compliance.
Lead and support Store Managers in achieving commercial and operational targets.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching to develop high-performing teams.
Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making.
5. Customer Experience & Store Standards
Monitor customer service standards and store presentation to ensure an excellent and consistent shopping experience.
Address feedback and operational issues to maintain high satisfaction levels.
6. Inventory & Supply Chain Support
Collaborate with procurement and warehouse teams to manage stock levels effectively, improve supply chain efficiency, and reduce shrinkage, ensuring inventory investments are optimized to support financial targets.
Implement loss prevention strategies and operational controls to minimize wastage and theft, protecting the company’s financial assets and improving overall profitability.
7. Cross-functional Collaboration & Growth Support
Work closely with marketing on local store promotions to drive store traffic and sales, ensuring promotional activities align with financial goals and deliver return on investment.
Support new store openings through detailed financial and operational planning, ensuring budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation meet business objectives.
Identify initiatives to improve productivity, streamline processes, and capitalize on growth opportunities with a strong focus on financial impact and sustainability
Required Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience in an area managerial role.
Proven ability to support multi-store retail operations, driving efficiency, sales growth, and performance improvements.
Good understanding of Fair Work Australia regulations and compliance requirements.
Experience in leadership, sales strategy, financial management, and budget planning.
Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment managing competing priorities.
Proficiency in retail analytics, reporting tools, and inventory management systems.
Valid Australian driver’s licence for travel between store locations.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary depending on experience – base salary starting from $120,000 p.a
