We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) to join on a full-time basis within The Orthopaedic Institute - Ward 5.
The ideal candidate will possess experience in developing and delivering clinical education, within Ward 5 - Orthopaedics. In this vital role, the CNE will be a key resource in advancing the careers of our staff by supporting training and development opportunities.
The Role
Ward 5 at The Orthopaedic Institute in Macquarie University Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Educator to join their team. Using your Nursing and Clinical Nurse Eeducator knowledge within Orthopaedics, you will have a comprehensive understanding of current orthopaedic trends and extensive clinical experience in orthopaedics, particularly in acute and post-operative care. Expertise in fracture management, joint preservation techniques, and joint replacements of both upper and lower limbs is essential. Knowledge and experience in osseointegration will be highly valued.
The CNE will collaborate closely with the MQ Health Academy to plan, develop, and deliver comprehensive education programs, both hospital-wide and within specific departments. A vital part of this role involves fostering a culture of development and inquiry to ensure the ongoing growth and progression of our nursing staff.
The role encompasses on-floor teaching and coaching, as well as formal instruction. Therefore, a clear passion and enthusiasm for teaching and knowledge-sharing are essential. The successful candidate will employ a variety of innovative approaches to effectively engage and educate staff.
Key Accountabilities include (not limited to):
- Provide clinical expertise in the development and facilitation of learning within The Orthopaedic Institute: Ward 5 and MQ Health Academy
- Provide evidence-based support to all nursing staff within the department to meet standards of care
- Lead the development and facilitation of identified mandatory and continuing professional development education
- Support standardised orientation processes with Nursing Unit Managers (NUM).
- Coordinate and monitor pathways and progressions of nursing staff within Ward 5.
- Provide subject matter expertise in the development of education resources within and external to the department.
- Flexibility and adaptiveness to changing circumstances, and ability to set priorities, establish and achieve agreed objectives.
About You
You will have experience in developing and delivery of education at a departmental level, with the scope of supporting the ongoing development of nursing staff. You will hold strong communication skills and ability to adapt training to a mixed level scope of staff and applying suitable learning styles. The role will have you work collaboratively with staff and management on the needs of the department and demonstrate clinical and critical thinking skills. Having worked and delivered in preceptorship and other teaching roles will be highly regarded.

- Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Orthopaedic Nursing
- Experience working as a clinical nurse educator or clinical nurse specialist with a minimum of 3 years recent experience in Orthopaedics.
- Proven ability to prioritise work and delegate tasks
- Previous experience in the preceptorship of staff.
- Proven ability to adapt to changing circumstances
- Demonstrates and practices effective verbal and written communication skills and hold proficient computer skills
- Evidence of continual professional development (ie. courses commensurate in related fields) (desirable)
- Post graduate qualification in education, clinical care, or orthopaedics. (desirable)
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or working towards the same (desirable)
Role Specific Conditions:
- Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for NSW (Please provide your WWCC number in your application
- Registered Nurse/Enrolled Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- MQ Health Immunisation screening
- This position requires a Criminal History Check
