HiQA is a leading provider of construction materials testing services across Australia. We pride ourselves on People, Evolve & Improve, Excellence, High Performance, and Results. Our Darwin branch is seeking a reliable and driven Senior Technician 2IC to help lead our laboratory testing team.

The Role – Senior Technician 2IC

As the 2IC, you’ll be the right hand to our Branch Leader, coordinating resources, overseeing day‑to‑day lab operations, and ensuring we deliver timely, accurate results to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate with the Branch Leader to assign resources and manage daily workflows

Oversee processing of concrete, aggregate and soil samples to meet turnaround targets

Perform regular equipment checks, calibrations, and maintenance

Conduct field testing, laboratory testing, and prepare clear, concise test reports

Train and mentor junior technicians and trainees

Maintain technical control over all facets of the testing process

Ensure the team meets minimum daily workload and productivity benchmarks

Uphold and promote HiQA’s safe work practices and quality standards

Provide an exceptional level of customer service, communicating effectively with clients and internal stakeholders

About You

Qualifications: Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques

Experience: Minimum 5 years’ hands‑on experience in a materials testing laboratory environment

Previous reporting experience in concrete, aggregates, and soils testing

Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a lab setting

Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for detail

Ability to train, coach, and motivate a diverse team

Excellent communication and customer‑service skills

Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
