About the role
The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) is seeking a motivated and community-focused Events & Local Learning Network Team Leader to join our dynamic team.

This role supports the delivery of high-quality events and the Local Learning Network (LLN) — a community-driven program of short workshops that respond to local needs and priorities. You’ll work closely with volunteers, facilitators, community groups and local businesses to create inclusive opportunities for learning, engagement and social connection.

The position includes some after-hours and weekend work, perfect for someone passionate about community development, event coordination and adult learning.

Key responsibilities

Events Coordination

Assist with planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of HBNC events

Coordinate logistics including venue bookings, equipment, catering, set-up and pack-down

Engage and support volunteers involved in community events

Build partnerships with local businesses and organisations

Promote events via social media and HBNC channels

Collect feedback and contribute to event improvements

Local Learning Network

Plan and coordinate after-hours workshops for community members, with a focus on ages 18–36

Identify topics and facilitators based on community feedback

Recruit and support volunteer educators

Develop relationships with local groups and stakeholders

Monitor and evaluate sessions through surveys and attendance data

Marketing & Communication

Maintain workshop and event listings on the HBNC website

Create promotional flyers and social media posts (using templates)

Support delivery of the LLN marketing plan

Volunteer Support

Recruit, induct, and support volunteers for workshops and events

Maintain volunteer and attendee databases

Facilitate regular meetings with the Volunteer Events Team

About you
You’re an organised, creative and community-minded individual who thrives on bringing people together. You’re passionate about adult education, social connection, and community-led initiatives. You’ll also have:

Experience in community development, event management, education/training, or workshop delivery

Strong skills in volunteer coordination or team leadership

Excellent written and verbal communication

Confidence in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)

Experience creating marketing materials and social media content

A collaborative approach and strong time management skills

A current C Class driver’s licence
