About This Opportunity

As a Mental Health Adviser, you will provide crucial triage support and emergency mental health care to students experiencing crisis. This vital role involves ensuring timely and targeted assistance through a stepped care approach, and you'll contribute significantly to developing and coordinating triage strategies to enhance overall student wellbeing at the University.

Key responsibilities will include:

Lead Mental Health Triage & Assessment

  • Provide essential triage within Student Services, assessing risk and needs for all students, including those with high-risk or complex presentations, to ensure timely and targeted support.

Facilitate Referrals & Holistic Support

  • Act as a key referral point for students with mental health concerns, developing and maintaining internal and external pathways, while collaborating with colleagues to ensure a holistic, cross-referred approach to student wellbeing and engagement.

Coordinate Case Management & Awareness

  • Coordinate and contribute to the planning and case management for students with mental health concerns and raise awareness of available support services to enhance student engagement with university life.

Lead Mental Health Triage & Assessment

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of assessment and referral processes, focusing on follow-up and engagement with resources, while maintaining appropriate, confidential, and accurate records
About You
  • A degree or training in a relevant mental health field (e.g., Mental Health Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy) with at least four years' relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis response, intake, triage management, and brief mental health assessment for diverse clients.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with and provide advice to clients from diverse backgrounds, alongside the capacity to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to be flexible and responsive to changing work priorities, demonstrating strong self-management of personal development and workloads.
  • A clear understanding of the unique mental health challenges affecting students in tertiary education, and the ability to provide appropriate advice and recommendations on available services.

You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
