Brooklyn Boy Bagels is on the hunt for a passionate and driven Head Chef to lead the kitchen team at our bustling Surry Hills café. We’re Australia’s best bagel makers – winning No 1 in Asia-Pacific at NYC’s BagelFest, and 'Best Bakery' winner at the 2025 Australian Small Business Awards. We’re also known for our ever-evolving, creative café menu rooted in quality, American authenticity and big flavour, as well as our artisan breads, house-made cream cheeses, fresh pretzels, American-style cookies and pastries.

About the Role
As our Head Chef, you’ll take ownership of our kitchen operations — leading menu development, maintaining high standards of food quality and consistency, and managing a small but mighty team. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who loves working in a fast-paced, collaborative café environment, with a strong focus on breakfast and lunch service and deli-style fare.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead daily kitchen operations and ensure efficient service during peak periods

· Collaborate with leadership on seasonal menu design and innovation

· Oversee food safety, hygiene, and compliance standards (NSW Food Authority)

· Manage food costs, prep schedules, and stock ordering

· Train, motivate and roster kitchen staff

· Uphold the Brooklyn Boy Bagels commitment to freshness, quality, creativity and authenticity (New York vibes)

About You

· Proven experience as a Head Chef or Sous Chef in a busy café or restaurant

· Strong leadership and communication skills

· Passion for quality food and the smarts to organise it for quick service

· Excellent organisation and multitasking ability

· Food Safety Supervisor certificate a must (can be acquired)

· Familiarity with Jewish, New York-style or American deli/diner foods a plus
