About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and solutions-oriented Data Engineer with strong experience in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric notebooks to design and deliver scalable data pipelines and reporting infrastructure. Your work will directly impact how restaurants understand and optimise their operational performance, from kitchen throughput to customer experience.

You will be instrumental in transforming complex retail and commercial datasets into actionable insights, enabling restaurant managers and operations teams to make data-driven decisions through intuitive dashboards.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, optimise, and maintain data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric notebooks and Power BI datasets
• Integrate diverse data sources, including POS systems, supply chain databases, and customer feedback tools
• Model and transform raw data into clean, validated, analysis-ready datasets
• Collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to design intuitive and interactive Power BI dashboards focused on operational performance
• Implement data quality, governance, and security best practices across the pipeline
• Document data architecture, transformation logic, and user-facing metrics
• Continuously improve performance and scalability of data models and visuals
• Support the development of real-time insights where operational speed is critical

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer or BI Developer, preferably in retail, QSR, or hospitality industries
• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI: data modeling, DAX, custom visuals, and report optimisation
• Proficient in Microsoft Fabric / Synapse notebooks using PySpark or Spark SQL
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale datasets
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using modern cloud data tools (Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or similar)
• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and dimensional modelling
• Understanding of operational KPIs such as table turnover, order accuracy, average prep time, etc.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable

• Experience working with restaurant POS systems or supply chain data
• Background in hospitality, commercial retail, or food service analytics
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for BI assets
• Azure certifications (e.g. Azure Data Engineer Associate)
