About the Role:
Whittle Consulting are specialists in Integrated Strategic Planning for the mining industry. They are a team of highly experienced industry specialists dedicated to adding value to mining businesses.
Whittle Consulting’s team have technical expertise in a range of disciplines including geology, mining engineering, metallurgy, mathematics, computing, sustainability, operational/financial modelling and analysis.
This is a role in the Technical Services team, a small team with a varied skillset that works directly with experienced client-facing Consultants and clients. The core role of Technical Services combines mining operation model building with elements of data science and data analysis.
This position offers a unique learning opportunity for someone who is highly numerate and comfortable in complexity.
The role includes a 6-12 month period of shadowing experienced senior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Wrangle, validate and aggregate client mining operation data to feed into Whittle Consulting’s in-house optimisation software, Prober-F.
Build optimisation models of the physical material and financial flows within a mining operation. Learn about the importance of constraints/bottlenecks and apply these.
Analyse mine schedule results that are output by Prober-F. Investigate and troubleshoot run behaviour and analyse results to understand the key drivers of Net Present Value and other optimised decisions.
Communicate effectively internally and, when necessary, with clients during all the stages above.
Skills and experience:
Essential:
High level of numerical competency and a high attention to detail.
Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) skills.
Data manipulation with SQL and databases.
Strong Excel skills.
Comfortable in exploratory work in which there are many unknowns.
Strong communication – verbal, written and visual.
Desirable:
Previous experience in the Mining Industry.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Data Science or another quantitative field.
Skilled in Microsoft SQL Server and/or Microsoft Access.
Experience with programming or data science languages/tools.
