The Chemistry Centre provides accredited analyses of water, soil, sediment, biota and plant samples to support Government projects and decision making for agricultural, environmental and resource management outcomes.

As the Senior Chemist, you will:
• Lead, supervise and coordinate a team of technical and professional staff operating and maintaining major instruments (i.e. triple quadrupole liquid chromatography mass spectrometer (LCMSMS), UPLC, GCMS, IC and ICPMS associated with the analysis and reporting of water, soil and plant samples.
• Provide specialist analytical chemistry input to support the development and implementation of environmental monitoring project and programs associated with land resources assessment, land use management strategies and environmental fate of contamination in water, soil and plants.
• Lead the development, validation, and monitoring of pesticide and emerging contaminants analytical methods to improve accuracy, efficiency and meet project's emerging needs.
• Develop, maintain and review documentation and analytical reports according to NATA quality policies and procedures.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with internal and external customers and provide technical and scientific advice related to research finding, analysis and reports as required.
• Provide commitment and support for the effective implementation and ongoing management of DESI's policy and procedures, systems, activities, and processes to fulfil all obligations under legislation including the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 and the Financial Accountability Act 2009.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.

The ideal applicant will be someone who:
• Has an extensive experience in organic analytical chemistry, method development and techniques related pesticide analyses, PFAS, and emerging contaminants.
• Has demonstrated experience in leading a team successfully, managing high throughput sample analysis and supporting the delivery of environmental projects,Including the ability to provide customers and team members with guidance to resolve complex analytical challenges.
• Has effective interpersonal communicate skills with ability to communicate results and research findings confidently and clearly.
• Has good computer skills, including experience in the use of databases, Laboratory Information Management systems, statistical and word-processing and modelling software.
