About the role

You will play a pivotal role in supporting QBuild's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry by providing state-wide planning, building, maintenance, and disaster response services that utilise local suppliers and QBuild tradespeople and apprentices. The primary purpose of the position is to manage the provision of quantity surveying services to QBuild Clients to consistently achieve client requirements in building procurement projects in terms of agreed cost, time and quality in an environment of competing and changing client priorities.

Duties and skills involved:

  • Managing the provision of quantity surveying services to the business unit clients.
  • Preparing feasibility studies, estimates, cost plans, tender checks and “value for money” assessments.
  • Preparing reports, recommendations, and submissions on technical matters as necessary and assisting in the development and implementation of appropriate measures of economic performance.
  • Preparing terms of reference and assisting with the commissioning of external consultants for capital works building projects.
  • Reviewing variations and claims for additional fees submitted by external consultants and provide advice on their validity and extent.
  • Preparing estimates, tender checks and reviews.
  • Preparing cost plans and conducting pre-construction cost control.
  • Performing total contract cost management duties on assigned projects.
  • Preparing valuations of existing properties and research technical issues for specific projects and assignments.
  • Liaising with tenderers and contractors in the resolution of matters of contention, particularly in relation to cost.
  • Performing total contract cost management duties on major projects.

Additional requirements (mandatory/desirable):

  • Degree-level qualification in Quantity Surveying from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent, as determined by the Chief Executive.
  • Current Workplace Health & Safety General Safety Induction card.
  • A member of the AIQS or working towards becoming a member is advantageous.
