St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital is a 60-bed rehabilitation hospital focused on supporting patients to regain independence and improving their quality of life by offering specialist neurological, cardiac, orthopaedic, movement disorder (including Parkinson's disease) and reconditioning programs to patients from across the Mornington Peninsula and Greater Melbourne areas.
Your Role at St John of God Franskton Hospital
You will work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to provide senior clinical speech pathology services to clients/patients. We offer specialist neurological, cardiac, orthopaedic and movement disorder rehabilitation programs, as well as general programs for patients recovering from surgery, accidents or injury.
The Grade 2 Speech Pathologist is expected to work independently and demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge and depth of experience. The Grade 2 Speech Pathologist is expected to initiate and participate in teaching, training, research and quality activities, to supervise students and supervise and mentor junior caregivers.
The Position
- Provision of Speech Pathology services at a senior level including assessment of patients with communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders
- Development of individual therapy programs (with long and short term goals) for the more complex patients.
- Documentation of assessment results, treatment procedures and progress in medical record, with communication of these to the referring party and other parties involved in the patient's management
- Participation in relevant client-related meetings, including ward round, family conferences and patient review meetings
- Counsel clients and family members regarding communication/swallowing problems
- Appropriate referrals and recommendations for further assessment / treatment or community support are made in a timely manner.
- Explore any developing areas of assessment and treatment which may improve standards of care
- Responsible for completing appropriate administrative duties. This requires liaison with the administration team, reporting of statistical data and completion of progress notes.
- Uses an evidence-based, problem solving approach to clinical care and service development.
You will have tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology and current full membership to Speech Pathology Australia and demonstrate senior clinical experience within rehabilitation and leadership in a specialised area of clinical practice within a healthcare setting.
To succeed you will have ability to undertake professional supervision and/or mentor junior staff and to promote professional competence and growth in staff and demonstrate ability to develop evidence based, innovative clinical practices and initiate quality improvement activities.

- Salary: $58.42 to $69.87 per hour (includes casual loading), plus 11.5% superannuation
