Join Yellow Legal as a Family Lawyer!
Are you a family lawyer looking for a fresh approach to legal practice? Do you want to be part of a law firm that values social impact, ethical practice and life outside of work? Do you want to ditch the 6-minute billables?
Yellow Legal, a progressive family law firm in Canberra, is looking for a bright, motivated Family Lawyer to join our team.
About Yellow Legal
We are a modern family law firm dedicated to improving people’s experience of separation and divorce to help them build brighter futures. As a small but mighty firm, we are growing from strength to strength. We are leaders in trauma-informed practice in law and one of the few family law firms in Canberra offering fixed fees to clients. We believe in providing practical, compassionate support through the separation and divorce process.

At Yellow Legal, our principles guide everything we do:
WE WANT BRIGHTER FUTURES – For our clients, their children, our staff, and our community
WE ARE TRUSTWORTHY – We act ethically and with integrity in all that we do
WE ARE MODERN – We embrace change, reflection, fresh ideas, and innovation to make things better
Our team is everything to us—without a great team, we can’t deliver great service to our clients.
About the Role
We are looking for someone who genuinely cares about people and client outcomes, uses their legal skills to think outside the box, is professional, pragmatic, and emotionally intelligent.
We recognise that family law can be a tough gig, and we are committed to supporting our lawyers in building meaningful, sustainable careers.
We welcome applications from lawyers who:
Treat client relationships as partnerships and think holistically about clients’ needs
Aren’t afraid to pick up the phone to de-escalate matters and find solutions
Value ethical, transparent practice
Avoid legal jargon and explain things clearly
Want to adopt a trauma-informed approach to legal practice
Values well-being—because taking care of yourself means you can take care of others
Daily activities include:
Representing clients in the FCFCOA
Conducting mediations and collaborations
Drafting legal documents and correspondence
Providing legal advice and practical solutions
Offering clients realistic, tailored advice designed to reduce conflict rather than escalate it

Possess excellent people management skills
Are professional and committed to excellent client service and care about your impact
