This position is responsible for the management of moorings and derelict and unseasworthy vessels.
The successful applicant will manage and evaluate mooring applications and applications for deployment of research equipment. Other tasks include managing the transfer of mooring permits and undertaking periodic mooring audits state-wide.
Other tasks include maintaining and updating the MAST mooring GIS system, managing MAST's cruising moorings, including arranging and scheduling their servicing and maintaining a working relationship with mooring contractors.
The Mooring Officer will assist with the removal of derelict, abandoned and unseasworthy vessels.
Essential Skills
Knowledge and expertise in, or the capacity to rapidly acquire knowledge and expertise in Marine and Safety Tasmania practices and legislation.
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain operational and regulatory requirements to MAST’s stakeholders.
The ability to exercise independent judgment in the practices, methods, and standards to be applied to mooring permit management.
Good organisational skills to enable the coordination and management of a variety of tasks at the same time plus the planning and accurate completion of tasks within pre-determined time frames.
Highly proficient in using technology including Microsoft Excel, Access and GIS programs.
Knowledge of Tasmanian waterways and demonstrated boating experience, including operating 4WD tow vehicles and vessel care and maintenance.
A current driver’s licence
Coxswain NC2 (or greater) certificate.
Desirable Skills
Certificate IV in Government Regulatory Compliance and Investigation
