Veterinary Nurse - Trainee

We are in need of a full-time trainee veterinary nurse. You will be well supported by our senior nurse Laura, as well as our other three senior nurses. We perform between 5 and 12 procedures each day, usually 3-5 major orthopaedic or soft tissue procedures with the remainder being dentals/desexings/lump removals, etc... Training/support is most certainly provided for those looking to move into this role, mostly internal but outside courses as well where available/suitable. We are currently a surgery focused practice so an interest in surgical nursing is advantageous.

Our nurses get to be nurses, performing all our admits and discharges, iv catheterisations, anaesthetic monitoring and recovery, blood collection and processing, nurse vaccinations, radiology of patients. Our nurses are integral in the recovery of puppies from the many caesareans we perform. You will be involved in overseeing nurses involved in the above, training nurses as well as scrubbing in on procedures. Your responsibility will also involve handling client enquiries directly or secondarily from our reception team with questions they may have. You may also have responsibility for some of the stock ordering. This is shared between our senior staff so no one person has to carry to full load.

We have four theatres, a very large prep area with three tables/anaesthetic machines, a large nursing station for cleaning/sterilizing, two separate large waiting areas for clients/patients, large staff room, separate rest area for those clients that have travelled some distance to see us, large reception area, and on-site parking for 35 cars for patients and staff…. the single greatest issue at many practices.

Our hospital is currently open from 7am to 6pm Mon to Fri but will be moving to a 7am to 7pm Monday through to Fridays and open half a day on Saturdays from 8am-1pm. The role is for a full-time nurse Monday through to Fridays.
