Newly created FC role in a growing, multi-site retail business. Take ownership of finance and drive improvements across operations and strategy
Privately owned retail group in the furniture and homeware space, expanding nationally with new store rollout plans.
Western Sydney location – $160K - $180K + super, with flexible hybrid work (1–2 days in office).
The Company
Our client is a privately owned retail group with a strong presence in the home and lifestyle sector. With a growing showroom network across multiple states and further expansion underway, they’re entering an exciting scale-up phase.
Headquartered in Western Sydney with warehousing along the East Coast, they offer stylish, high-value products to discerning retail and hospitality customers. They now seek a commercially minded Financial Controller to lead the finance function and support the next stage of growth.
The Role
This newly created Financial Controller role is a rare opportunity to build the finance function from the ground up while acting as a key commercial partner. Reporting directly to the business owners, you’ll be supported by an existing AP and external bookkeeping resource, with a view to bringing everything in-house.
This is a hands-on, strategic role focused on setting up processes, reporting, and commercial insights to support business growth.
Key responsibilities:
Full ownership of finance operations (AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations)
Drive improvements to processes, systems, and documentation
Budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and reporting
Cross-functional business partnering
Identify commercial opportunities to support growth and expansion
Provide input on store rollouts and broader strategic planning
Your Background
This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced and confident Financial Controller who thrives in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments. You will be comfortable working autonomously, proactive in driving change, and bring commercial acumen alongside technical strength.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
CPA or CA qualification
Experience in a retail or product-based business (multi-site highly regarded)
Background in SMEs or growing businesses
Strong working knowledge of Xero
A hands-on, solutions-focused approach
Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work closely with non-finance stakeholders
