About the Position

The Asset Planner – Active Transport works closely with other staff within the Infrastructure Asset Management team to plan the delivery of infrastructure which supports and promotes active transport. This includes formal and informal trails, shared use paths and cycling infrastructure (on and off road) and work with our Asset Planner – Footpaths and Senior Traffic and Transport Coordinator to ensure a coordinated approach. The position also plays a crucial role in advocating for, and influencing infrastructure outcomes which impact, improved public transport integration and less car reliance within our city.

Our assets extend across our entire Council network, including throughout our coastal areas and wine regions, with these assets improving livability within our city and also enhancing visitor experience. Each year, we deliver an extensive program to build new, and renew existing, active transport assets and the Asset Planner also has the ability to influence larger scale projects and new developments.

Within the trails, cycling and shared use path portfolio, the role is responsible for forming long-term delivery programs, scoping projects for design, understanding the state of our assets, responding to customer enquiries and undertaking community engagement (with support from our Engagement team) on upcoming projects. The Asset Planner also updates and leads the Trails and Cycling Strategic Management Plan.

About You

You are a passionate and experienced individual who confidently promotes and supports active transport and the enabling infrastructure. You will have experience in managing multi-year capital works programs and initiating projects as well as experience with regards to advocacy and in providing input into key strategies – linking our annual works programs with strategic targets.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Passion and experience in planning for active transport infrastructure
  2. Experience in managing a multi-year capital works program using various inputs
  3. Ability to prepare project briefs and initiate works
  4. Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills, working with a diverse stakeholder group
