About the role
We are currently recruiting for several permanent part-time Community Mental Health Practitioner positions (26.6 hours per week) at our Youth Step Up Step Down residential service in Caboolture.
We are seeking self-motivated, empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioners who are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of young people. In this role, you will deliver person-centred, recovery-orientated support to young people, helping them achieve their recovery goals, build capacity to live safely in the community, strengthen social connections, establish daily routines and develop independent living skills. This position requires flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including night shifts, weekdays, weekends, and sleepovers.
About the service
The Youth Step Up Step Down (YSUSD) service is a short-term residential mental health program for young people aged 16–21, delivered in partnership with the local health service. It provides intensive individual and group support to build resilience, social connection, and wellbeing. YSUSD offers a ‘step up’ alternative to hospital admission or a ‘step down’ transition from hospital back to the community.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high quality services to respond to the unique needs of young people, offering a flexible and person-centred approach.
- Support young people to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
- Provide information and mentoring to young people to foster positive relationships with those important to them, create community networks and access to relevant services.
- Plan and deliver group programs that aid young people to build their skills and focus on recovery.
- Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to young people’s recovery goals.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
- Hold a current First Aid and CPR certificate and perform these duties as required as part of the role.
- Expertise in working with young people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
- Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
- Ability to provide a record of vaccination for Vaccine Preventable Diseases or willingness to obtain vaccinations for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B, or other diseases as required through our partnership with QLD Health.
