Council’s Statutory Planning Branch is seeking a Principal Statutory Planner to join our team. This senior role is ideal for an experienced planning professional ready to step into leadership—supporting staff, overseeing complex planning matters, and ensuring the effective delivery of statutory planning services across the municipality.
You’ll apply your in-depth knowledge of planning legislation, policies, and statutory procedures while mentoring team members and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. You'll also collaborate closely with our Strategic Planning Branch, with the opportunity to shape both statutory and strategic planning outcomes.
Position details
Part Time or Full Time Employment – hours may be negotiated. Flexibility of three days paid per week and up to 5 days paid per week available by mutual agreement.
This role allows for flexible working arrangements and as part of the package, Council will also provide relocation assistance to help support a move to the region.

About the Opportunity
As our Principal Statutory Planner, you will
Lead assessment of development applications in accordance with the Mildura Planning Scheme, Planning and Environment Act, and Subdivision Act
Provide expert statutory planning advice and ensure the consistent application of legislation
Take on complex applications and support the team with guidance, review, and mentoring
Contribute to cross-functional planning projects, working collaboratively across Council
What you will bring
Ideally the successful applicant will have the following:
A degree or diploma in Town and Regional Planning or equivalent recognised with substantial experience in a senior planning role (either local government or consulting)
A current driver’s licence.
Hold a current satisfactory Police Check or willing to obtain one prior to employment.
Salary and Conditions
The position is classified within Band 7 of Council’s Current Enterprise Agreement ranging from $104,988 to $117,480 per annum plus statutory superannuation.
