GREENPEACE AUSTRALIA PACIFIC

Greenpeace is a global environmental organisation dedicated to securing a world capable of nurturing life in all of its magnificent diversity. We are fully independent, accepting no funding from any government or business.

Founded in 1971, Greenpeace now operates as 26 independent national/regional organisations in over 55 countries, making it collectively one of the largest environmental networks on Earth. At Greenpeace Australia Pacific (GPAP), we're not just a team; we're a movement. By joining us, you're not just taking a job – you're seizing an opportunity to make a real-world difference.

This is a full time, 2 year fixed term contract. Open to candidates Australia wide.

THE TEAM

The Campaign Team is responsible for fighting for strong climate action and nature protection. Whether it’s preventing huge new gas mines, taking the fight of the Pacific to the world’s biggest stages, or advocating for solutions to replace harmful forms of economic activity, you’ll be working on campaigns we believe will make the world safer and more just.

Our Campaigning Team is divided up into 3 core streams. These include Climate and Energy, Nature and Pacific. We are looking for someone to join our Nature team to help leverage Greenpeace’s power to influence and inspire decision-makers to shift in a way that aligns with the speed necessary to solve the world’s most pressing problems.

THE ROLE

The Senior Campaigner will be a leader in the nature team at GPAP with work spanning across our domestic and international campaigns. Our nature campaigns include advocating for large ocean sanctuaries, preventing deep sea mining, preventing damaging offshore oil and gas projects, ending deforestation and advocating for stronger Australian nature laws.

The Senior Campaigner role will have a particular focus on ocean sanctuaries but also assist on other campaigns in peak moments.

Working in collaboration with wider GPAP teams, this role will provide creativity and leadership in planning campaigns and ensure the dynamism, ambition and successful coordination of all aspects of a given campaign project or projects.

Some of the core responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of an ambitious, dynamic campaign strategy and projects;
  • Ensuring all campaigns are built around highly effective mobilisation, storytelling, political, corporate, community and/or business campaigning as appropriate;
  • Developing effective campaign fundraising strategies in collaboration with both domestic and international stakeholders;
  • Identifying gaps and needs in the oceans campaign team, and bring those to the attention of the Head of Nature Program;
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with allies and stakeholders and, provided information to the media to contribute to the broader departmental goals; and
  • Generating engaging and purposeful content for use across diverse channels.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for someone who can develop an incredible strategy, then bring a whole movement of people along with you to make it happen. You’ll have experience leading major, national campaigns, ideally influencing both corporate and government decision-makers, and be an effective leader and a great communicator, who is as comfortable lobbying in corporate boardrooms and parliaments as you are briefing grassroots activists. You’ll have a passion and knowledge of the nature issues that are impacting Australia.

You’ll also have:

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in a Campaigning or similar role
  • Advanced level of knowledge and understanding of power from a political and business point of view
  • Proven experience developing and implementing dynamic campaign strategies
  • Understanding of policy and how this can shape real world outcomes
  • Experience in managing budgets, reporting on campaign performance and ability to effectively work with the media

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • A role with one of the most well-known brands in the environmental NGO space, and the strength of the 50 years of Greenpeace behind you;
  • A great work-life balance including 35 hour work week, integrity framework and generous leave conditions (including an additional week of paid leave between Christmas and New Years);
  • Genuine flexible working conditions including remote work or hybrid working arrangements;
  • An incredible combined head office and warehouse space in Rosebery, Sydney. Plus, co-working spaces in Melbourne and Perth;
  • A culture that celebrates inclusivity, belonging and diversity; and
  • An annual health allowance

Annual full-time salary: $112,948.22 per annum + 11.5% superannuation.
