QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Brain and Mental Health, and Population Health. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.

About Engagement and Advancement:

The Engagement and Advancement team is responsible for building meaningful connections between the Institute and the wider community. The team leads philanthropy, marketing, digital, creative, brand, media, communications, community engagement and events—working together to grow awareness, support, and advocacy for our vital work and research.

Role Purpose / Responsibilities:

Applications are invited for a motivated and organised Events Assistant to join our dynamic Engagement and Advancement team at QIMR Berghofer. This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver a range of high-impact events around our 80th Anniversary - and support broader engagement activities that promote the Institute’s research and community impact.

The following duties will apply:

• Assist in the planning and delivery of events, with a focus on logistics, communications, and supplier coordination
• Support event promotion through digital tools and marketing channels
• Liaise with internal teams to coordinate venues, catering, AV, travel, and procurement
• Manage RSVPs, guest correspondence, and database updates
• Provide on-the-day event support and contribute to post-event feedback and reporting
• Follow event procedures and ensure activities align with workplace health and safety requirements

About you:

You are required to have:

• Some experience or training in events, communications, or marketing (or currently studying in these areas)
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting
• Confidence using standard office and digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, email platforms, social media)

A current Class C driver’s licence is desirable. Please note: some evening and weekend work will be required.

Remuneration:. This is a casual appointment for approx 15 – 20 hours per week until December 2025. The hourly rate will be $47.28143 to $52.83616 per hour plus superannuation. Level of appointment will be dependent on skills and experience.
